Happy July! Keeping your cool in the summer heat - with the stress and frustration of the job search is no small task and requires a calm perspective and diligent focus. Here are some tips for getting your 'space' ready for the summer job search....
- Clear the area around your computer. Start fresh. Organize your information and remove the old and replace with new.
- Water. Drink a lot of water....the job search is unkind to those who sit in front of the computer all day....water helps.
- Same job boards? Find some new ones. Update your search with NEW KEY WORDS. Mix it up a little.
- Is your cover letter/letter of introduction boring you? (it is probably boring the recruiter as well...) Jazz it up with some action words - remove a sentence - pull a sentence from the company website and incorporate it into your cover letter...show your research!
- Are you LinkedIn? When is the last time you looked at your LinkedIn account? When is the last time you posted an update or asked for an invite?
- How is your follow-up? Are you calling to inquire about your application? When is the last time you reached out to your Career Counselor (never wait for the phone to ring - reach out and take action!
- What are you doing when you are not searching for jobs? Why not volunteer your time? There are websites devoted to volunteering - you can connect with something that keeps you busy, uses your brain and might ultimately connect you to someone who can help land you a new job!
